From the Website:

The Au Ver à Soie Silk Chenille is available in two ranges:
  • Satin chenille, satin velvet look chenille made of silk. Thinner than the classic caterpillar [Chenille], its color changes according to the incidence of light. It has a sense and shapes like scales, so it should be used in the right way of scales. If you use it against the hair, it comes undone. Thus, it should not be used on a fabric that is too tight, or the passage holes must be preformed with an awl.
  • The Velvet Chenille, known as the classic chenille.
Both products are available in 5m and 120m skeins (Special Order).

Imagine a piece of velvet set on a table. When you run your hand over this shimmering and delicate surface, you will notice how soft, smooth and voluptuous it feels to the touch. Today you will find this feeling again with the silk chenille embroidery thread. Embroidery silk chenille can be seen in many ancient embroideries. On embroidered fabrics for jewelry boxes and seventeenth-century works, it was used to reproduce foam. In the English and American models of the seventeenth century, the caterpillar is used to reproduce trees and grass. It was very popular with French embroiderers of the seventeenth century who used it extensively to decorate clothing and for trimmings in concert with embroidery ribbons. Looking at the writings of the Victorian period, you can notice that chenille was used on quilted pieces, applied to clothing, bags, and many other embroidered items.
