100% cotton muslin is a great backing fabric for stitching on delicate fabrics like Silk. Colour similar to DMC 712

You can also stretch Muslin over stretcher bars larger than your working fabric, baste your working fabric to this before starting your surface embroidery project.  This is a classic way to mount embroidery to work in a Slate Frame Style.  Used in Goldwork, Stumpwork and other surface embroidery styles.

Muslin can also be used to wrap your embroidery for archival storage.
