Adventures in Embroidery - Colours of the Rainbow

It's a new year and I was searching for a new theme for this year's newsletters ... I look out the window here in Calgary, Alberta and it's white! The fun kind of snow, big fluffy snowflakes that cover everything and makes you want to build snowmen!

So there was my inspiration to start my adventures in embroidery with Colour ... and the Colour WHITE this month!

Some people think white is boring and simple but I think it is anything but that!

Using White Fabric to bring a clean crisp look to cross stitch designs or as a base to experiement with home dyeing, this is a great basic item to have in your stash!

I have spent the last 4 months organizing all my fabric listings on my website and here is the result ... you can now search fabrics by Colour. Below is a link to my White Collection. Within each of the fabric collections (Brand, Count, Type or Colour) you can filter for other options! So within White you can filter to just show the Fabric Count - 18 count or the Fabric Type - Lugana.

Each Fabric listing now notes what sizes are currently in stock and ready to ship (or pickup). I am updating this as items are purchased and it should be up to date within 24 hours of a sale or faster.

*Zweigart White Aida is an "Always in Stock" item and I keep it stocked on the bolt for extra large cuts over a yard in length.

Schwalm Embroidery Pillow designed by Barbara Kershaw

Whitework Embroidery is a style that shows up all over the world! From German Schwalm to Nordic Hardanger to Mountmelick Irish embroidery, this delicate stitching can be used for many things including this decorative pillow I stitched a few years ago.

While white thread is traditionally used, many designer now also include designs with all the colours of the rainbow and variegated threads look especially lovely!

Wikipedia is a great resource if you want to start exploring the history of different embroidery from around the world
