February Embroidery Adventure - Stitch away the Mid-Winter Blues!

January got you thinking about SPRING but then February arrived and now you have the Mid-Winter Blues :(

For me, February started with a party as my first Stitching Day event was enjoyed by all! I got the chance to talk to many people I have seen at my previous Pop Up Stores and meet a large group of new people as well! Some had just moved to Calgary, and others had discovered our wonderful stitching community!

A big thank you to @CalgaryStitchers on Facebook for supporting and sharing your passion for all things needle & thread. I encourage everyone to reach out to the stitching communities near you and start some new friendships this year!

I am also excited to welcome Jan Jourdain to my small team. I met Jan at a Cross-Stitch retreat before I started my business and she has been a supporter since the beginning. You will meet Jan at some of my Pop Up events this year.

I have a full year ahead of me and I will be taking a short break next week (Feb 9-14) to recharge before my busy Spring actually arrives! I will still have email and inventory notes will be updated but all orders will be held to ship when I am back in Calgary.

Take some time to stitch this February too.

Embroidery Tip of the Month

Needles: The Right Size for the Right Fabric Count

Needles are the center of our stitching universe but do we actually consider our needles as often as we should? Many of us started stitching with kits and just used the needle that was included without any extra thought.

There is a 'rabbit hole' of information out there about needles and you can spend hours learning about materials (Gold or Platinum) and manufacturing methods (Stamped or Milled) but for most of us we just want something that feels nice in the hand.

For Cross Stitch this is my simple tip ... Add 10 to your fabric count and voilà there's your needle size!!

14 stitches to the inch (Aida 14 or Linen 28) - Use #24

16 stitches to the inch (Aida 16 or Linen 32) - Use #26

18 stitches to the inch (Aida 18 or Linen 36) - Use #28

As I always say "There are no rules to stitching" and if you like a #24 needles because you can thread it without glasses then carry on my friend, carry on!!!

Tapestry Petit Needles are back in stock - in 2024 John James discontinued this style and they have been reintroduced by Colonial Needles and are made in India.
