May Adventure - Featured technique Hardanger

No, you are not missing anything ... I had no newsletter for April ...

I was a bit busy with 2 Pop Up Events and welcoming my new Shop Assistant, Amy!

This month's featured technique is Hardanger and is one of the many stitching styles that Amy is very knowledgeable about.

Hardanger is a stitching tradition from Northern Europe and features geometric designs and cut work. Historical examples are stitched in White or Cream, but modern interpretations include all the colours of the rainbow!

Many stitching traditions include a version of whitework and cutwork and this newsletter is meant as a stepping off point to explore what else is out there.

You will meet Amy at my future Pop Up events, including this months event in Regina, SK. This Spring she jumped right in to it, counting every item I have in stock and is now learning how to process and pack new orders.

Welcome Amy

New in stock:

Yvette Stanton's New Book

Hardanger Filling Stitches

Hardanger Fabric - 22 count

There is specific fabric that is used for Hardanger, the main thing you need to look for is fabric that can have the fibers removed easily. So Linen is a good alternative to Hardanger fabric, but AIDA is harder to remove the fibers so is not recommended

Below is a sample from the Cross N' Patch pattern "Seasons Greetings." This company has a large selection of hardanger patterns and I can order many from their catalogue

New Scissor Brand - KAI

Thank you for all the product suggestions and here is one of the great items that was sent in.

Scissor Collection - KAI Brand

The 5100 series was suggested to me by designer Natalie Dupuis as her 'go to' scissors. They are now in stock: Regular, Curved and Thread snips.

Embroidery Tip for March

Try something new ... Overdyed Perle Cotton Threads

TIP OF THE MONTH

Hardanger and other Whitework techniques can be stitched in COLOUR!

Threadworx and Weeks Dye Works both have a selection of Perle Cotton threads overdyed with colour variation. The Threadworx colours are bright and vibrant and the Weeks Dye Works are softer and more muted.

Thread Type - Perle (Cotton)

My collection of Perle thread types will let you explore all your options and branch out from the norm including Silk Perle.
