Happy Summer!
... and let the Games begin!! I love watching the Olympic Games and spending the day stitching while I follow along and cheer on Canada!
My first memory was watching the Torch relay for the 1988 Calgary Games travel through my hometown of Saskatoon and my first "Olympic Project" was during the 1996 Atlanta Games.
Below is Jardin Privé's Les Olympiades des Gnomes which celebrates her hometown of Paris, can you spot all the different sports!

"To celebrate the Paris Olympics, I asked the gnomes to get into sports. So the boxing bag and gloves were brought out, the towel and the "blue-green-red" flag of Gnome Country were washed and hung by a gnome who's in recovery, the champions' podium is ready, badminton rackets are striking the shuttlecock, nothing better than lifting flower pots to get muscles, the referee has revised the rules, the old bike has been oiled, sheep perfectly replace hurdles for jumping, and the pool is inflated! During my Spring Retreat in April there was a request to do another one in the Summer. Not everyone is able to go away during the summer so I have brought the 'vacation' to the city!
For $40 reserve your seat for 2 days of stitching and visiting (9am-5pm) each day, leave your stitching set up overnight and take the evening to hang out with your friends over dinner at any of the nearby restaurants along Macloed Trail.

If you can't come to stitch no worries, it's Free to shop in the afternoons as I will have my Store set up with all my threads, notions and Fabric ready for you to browse in person!
If you are out of town and visiting Calgary during one of our many events during the summer (including Stampede) you are welcome to set up a 'store' appointment and browse.

July Embroidery Tip of the Month:
Know your needle sizes!
For Tapestry Needles, add 10 to the fabric count to get the recommended needle size!
Aida 14 = Tapestry 24
Aida 16 = Tapestry 26
Aida 18 = Tapestry 28
But remember this is just a recommended guide, if you love a certain size go for it and use that one!
Sometime the needle eye will be different from one side to the other, if you can't get it threaded, twist it around and try the other side!
